Current status of the Russian nonwovens industry and development plans in recent years

An official spokesperson for Russian industrial trade announced that the Russian government plans to create favorable conditions in the next few years and significantly increase the production of non-woven fabrics.

At present, due to Western economic sanctions, Russia's commonly used textile production has been greatly reduced. Nonwoven fabrics are the only well-developed and fast-growing segment of the Russian textile industry, both in terms of investment and production.

According to the Russian Association of Nonwovens Manufacturers(Non Woven Fabrics Supplier), the production of non-woven fabrics(Spunbond Polypropylene Fabric Factory) in Russia reached 7.5 billion m2 in 2015, and by 2020, the output of non-woven fabrics will increase to 2 billion m2.

According to Denis Manturov, head of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, head of the nonwovens industry, the health care industry is the largest user of nonwovens, mainly for cleaning and hygiene products. According to the Russian Association of Nonwovens Manufacturers, this segment will account for 25% of the Russian nonwovens market in the next few years.

Currently, the Russian nonwovens industry includes approximately 30 large companies and more than 100 small and medium-sized factories. Before the Russian economic crisis caused by economic sanctions in the West, the annual production line of non-woven fabrics was 10, and the number of production lines has decreased significantly since the recession.

Economic sanctions in Western countries have led to a crisis in the local nonwovens industry(Non Woven Products Vendor), including prohibiting foreign equipment suppliers from supplying equipment to local producers.

At present, most of the equipment used in the Russian nonwovens industry is imported from abroad because local equipment suppliers lack the manufacturing technology for such equipment. Most of the existing equipment comes from major suppliers in Western countries, such as ANDRITZ (International Group), Diro Group (Germany), Reifenhauser (Germany), High Mattes (Italy) and Hill. Company (USA) and so on.

The Russian government is aware of the problems currently facing the industry and is considering various solutions. This includes investing in high-quality talent for the industry and increasing investment in research and development in the industry.

The training of talents will be carried out in key national universities and specialized higher education institutions in the field, such as the Moscow Institute of Higher Education, the oldest textile industry in Russia, A.N, Kexijin Textile University.

The government's solution also includes subsidies, tax incentives and incentives for companies such as Komitex, JSC “Nomateks” and JSC “Kovroteks”.
